Librarian: Mrs. McCarthy
The Sister Eileen Memorial Library was dedicated in 2000. The library's collection includes approximately
5,000 volumes. There are reading materials available for all students, primary through junior high.
Kindergarten through grade 6 has a weekly scheduled library period. Junior High has scheduled library
time, also, to be used as needed.
The main focus of our library is to get students reading. The library provides a calm, quiet, inviting
space for students in the midst of their busy day. Students have the opportunity to browse the shelves,
find a book, and relax and read. And of course, we love to talk about favorite books and authors!
TheAccelerated Reader program is for
students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.
The goal of the program is to encourage students to read. There are over 2,000 books on the Accelerated Reader
list, so students have a wide choice. The Accelerated Reader books are clearly marked for students' convenience.
After reading a book, the students take a short quiz on a computer. The third and sixth graders test in
the library, fourth and fifth graders test in their classroom. Points are awarded according to the student's
achievement. Every grade level has its own point goal for each quarter. Rewards are given
to students achieving their goal.
The entire library collection is now computerized. Every book is bar coded. Students will be checking
out books, not by signing a card, but by scanning their bar code. This system will enable us to keep more accurate
records, and to better serve the students.
We look forward to a "readingful" year!
